The Dollmakers' Island
The Dollmakers' Island

Alice-like in its feel and treatment, The Dollmakers' Island is an interesting perspective on the socio-political scenario in India through the ages. The narrative flows across time and space, breaking all barriers. The book is tongue-in-cheek, persistent, and fun to read.

The author:
Anuradha Kumar has already published young adult books with Penguin and Hachette India. Her earlier adult novel, Letters for Paul, was published by Mapin in 2006. She was also one of the winners of the Commonwealth short story writing competition in 2004, and was shortlisted for The Little Magazine New Writing Awards 2006.

Reviews:

'In this state of free meanings, Kumar brings in the discipline of consistency and pattern that makes her work truly remarkable. The book compels second and third readings as symbols stay fecund. Her brand of poetic ambiguity is not that of an abyss of dark meanings, but that of multiple analogies and the reader enjoys the unravelling of the puzzle prose that is almost solved yet isn't.' - Asian Age

'A parable packed in enigmatic magic realism and decorated with smart prose.' - smart-scholars.com
